16th Century Our Lady of Mount Carmel, ca. 16th Century, Gold Gilded and Polychromed
16th Century Spanish gold gilded and polychromed Carved-wood sculpture of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. She depicts the Blessed Virgin Mary in her role as patroness of the Carmelite Order. She was above the main altar for approximately 500 years. The Virgin is placed on a wall bracket that has been made of two Capitals that were part of her original altar. They are connected by a contemporary piece of wood that has been waxed and stained to match the period-style gold gilded and hand painted molding framing the Lucite panel.
